Check the light and the handbook
Make a note of the exact warning, whether it stays on or flashes, and any change in performance. Your vehicle handbook is the first reference for that particular symbol. A flashing engine warning, rough running, overheating or a red stop warning needs prompt attention: stop somewhere safe and contact your breakdown provider for advice.
A steady amber light still needs investigation. Avoid assuming the car is safe to drive simply because it starts or sounds normal; follow the handbook and get advice about your symptoms.
What a diagnostic scan adds
A mobile diagnostic scan reads the fault codes and information available from accessible onboard systems. It can show which system has recorded a problem and give a repairer a useful starting point. A code alone does not prove that a particular component needs replacing.
Licence to Chill explains the accessible findings and supplies printed results. Coverage depends on the vehicle and equipment. Some faults need physical checks or specialist diagnosis beyond a scan.
Engine management light reset: what we can and cannot clear
An engine management light reset clears supported stored fault information when it is appropriate to do so. We first discuss the warning and read accessible systems. Keep a record of the diagnostic findings before clearing, because they can be useful for further investigation.
Where a fault has been addressed, a supported reset may be possible. If an active problem remains, the reset may fail or the light may come back. Some permanent or manufacturer-specific fault information cannot simply be erased by a routine scan. We cannot promise that every warning can be cleared on every vehicle.
A check engine light reset does not repair the cause, prove the vehicle is safe or guarantee an MOT pass. Airbag light resets follow the same principle: clearing a warning is not proof that the safety system is working correctly. We do not offer to conceal an unresolved fault.
What to send when you enquire
Send your registration, postcode, the warning message and a brief description of what happens. Mention any recent repairs or battery problems. A dashboard photograph can help explain the enquiry.
We arrange mobile visits around Selby and Goole, with suitability and price confirmed before booking. A diagnostic scan can be booked individually or included in the £99.99 Chill & Check package.
Service light reset and engine warnings are different
A service reminder usually relates to scheduled maintenance. An engine management warning relates to a condition recorded by the vehicle. The correct next step depends on the exact indicator and the manufacturer’s instructions; the two should not be treated as interchangeable.
If maintenance has already been carried out and a service light reset is required, send the registration, model and details of the work. We confirm whether the equipment supports the procedure and whether a reset is appropriate. The reset does not itself perform the service.
Arrange a mobile diagnostic check
See our mobile diagnostics and warning-light reset service for what is included. We are based in Great Heck and consider home and workplace bookings around Selby, Goole, Doncaster, Pontefract, Castleford, Wakefield, Leeds and York. The coverage guide lists more nearby locations.
Before we travel, send the vehicle registration, actual postcode, a description or photo of the warning, and recent repair history. We agree suitability and the quote, including any travel costs. If the vehicle’s warning or symptoms mean it should not be driven, follow the handbook and arrange appropriate assistance rather than driving to meet us.
Reset questions answered
Can you reset an engine management light at my home?
We can discuss a mobile diagnostic visit and an appropriate reset where the vehicle supports it. The fault must be considered first; clearing a code does not repair its cause.
Why does the light return after a reset?
An unresolved or recurring fault may trigger the warning again. The next step is investigation of the cause, rather than repeated clearing.
Is a service light reset included for every car?
No universal compatibility is promised. Send your registration, model and the maintenance completed so the team can confirm whether an appropriate service reminder reset is supported.
General guidance. Follow your vehicle handbook and seek advice for your specific vehicle.
